Overview
Trevo (Transportes Rodoviários de Évora) is the concessionaire for Évora's public transport network, part of Rodoviária do Alentejo and operating the city's urban transport service. In 2022, Trevo partnered with UbiRider and Mastercard to become the first city in Portugal to offer contactless payments across an entire public transport network.
Challenges
Being the first public transport operator in Portugal to deploy contactless EMV payments network-wide with no local precedent to build from; Replacing a traditional cash-and-physical-ticket system and moving an established legacy operation to fully digital fare collection almost overnight; Rolling out a brand-new platform as the first case of the UbiRider Platform installation in a full public transport operation.
Results
Trevo became the first operator in Portugal with a public transport network supporting contactless payments, setting the standard others would follow; Cash transactions dropped 20, simplifying boarding across the network; The first full deployment of the UbiRider Platform went smoothly and safely.
“With UbiRider, we know in seconds where a bus is - and our passengers too. The operation is now much simples. From vehicle location to fleet management and reports, our operation is much more agile and reliable with UbiRider.” Susana Ramalhinho, Operation manager
